Over his 35 years in Christian ministry, Dr. S. L. Sherrill has served in seven ministries as youth pastor, pastor, principal, administrator, and superintendent. He is a strong advocate of Kingdom education proclaiming the importance of linking the church and school with the family. Currently, he serves as the Founder and Superintendent of North Raleigh Christian Academy. This ministry, eleven years old, ministers to 1300 students, K-12, on a state-of-the-art, 35 million dollar campus with excellence in academics, fine arts, and athletics in a Kingdom education environment. North Raleigh Christian Academy is fully accredited by regionally by SACS, nationally by ACSI, and internationally by CITA. It has been Dr. Sherrill’s privilege to assist in the start of seven schools. In addition, his training seminar for pastors, Christian School 101: The Nuts and Bolts, has resulted in new school starts in Florida, North Carolina, Texas, and South Carolina. He serves as the District 3 Representative for the Southeast Region of ACSI (Eastern North Carolina). He also consults with schools in governance, accreditation, strategic planning, and the development of staff and curriculum. He attended Louisburg College (AA, 71), Tennessee Temple University (BA, 76), Faith Baptist Theological Seminary (ThB, 78, ThM,79, ThD, 81), and Faith Seminary (MCE, 85, DCE, 88). He has also completed counseling courses at Liberty University and Christian school administration courses at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. In May of 2007, Tennessee Temple University honored Dr. Sherrill with an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree for his 35 years of Christian service. Dr. Sherrill has been married to Deborah Lynn Bierer, an alumnus of Tennessee Temple University (BS, 74), for 33 years this August 17, 2007. God has blessed them with two daughters, Joy Mathes and Jennifer Allsbrook. Of course, they have two great son-in-laws, Kevin Mathes and Aaron Allsbrook. Their first grandchild was born January 27, 2007 to Kevin and Joy Mathes. Her name is Emma Elaine Mathes, the apple of their eye. Future plans for Dr. Sherrill are to acquire land for the future development of NRCA, train Pastors for new school starts, write a book on Christian School Administration, provide in-services for school staffs and conduct board training in policy governance and strategic planning for churches and schools.
