Southern Baptist Christian School Seniors Recognized By National Scholarship Programs
Thirteen Christian school students have been selected as scholarship winners from a field of forty-five finalists from nine states in the prestigious B.R. Chamberlain Foundation SBACS Outstanding Scholars Award Program for 2006. A sister program, the SBACS John Chandler Outstanding Musician Scholarships, will honor an additional student the first of May, 2006. Qualifiers are selected to national, regional and finalist levels by meeting stringent academic or musicianship criteria, and are also evaluated on character and service. Four high school seniors are selected from the pool of qualified applicants to receive a $1000 college tuition scholarship for national-level scholars and musicians. Ten students are selected as regional Outstanding Scholars, each earning a $500 scholarship. All applicants must score a minimum of 1250 SAT/28 ACT, have an overall 3.5 GPA and have evidenced leadership, service and Christian character to be considered for the Outstanding Scholars Program. Aspiring musicians are evaluated on instrumental or vocal music performance, GPA, Christian character, student activities, church activities, and leadership. This is the fourth year that the scholarships have been funded by the B.R. Chamberlain Foundation for Public Enrichment, a public foundation in Orlando, Florida. "Through their generous commitment, the B.R. Chamberlain Foundation has provided scholarship funding for SBACS member school students throughout the United States and abroad to receive help with the cost of higher education. Our hope is that other individuals and foundations will be encouraged to contribute to this fund as well," said SBACS Executive Director Ed Gamble.
